Zine Update - promotion for you & feedback needed.

for myspace/yuwie etc usersI'll be starting a site/blog for the zine on wordpress and am planning to have a links page listing contributers / people &/or items featured in the zine with a link to your page &/or a personal site of your choice, plus a blog on myspace/yuwie/perfspot linking to your url.

Also I've posted extracts/examples of my writing to gather - any feedback (both positive and negative) is welcome.

Post it here as that'll be easier.

Hopelessly Romantic zine - looking for ideas/submissions/feedback

(cross posted)

I have about 40 pages done for issue 2/3 but need more contributions.

Things that are definitly going to be the next issue(s) - to give you an idea - tributes to Joe from Anderson Toones (formerly Annie of the Bloods), and Johnny Green, Antony Genn on Joe and The Hours, Clash concert memories, thoughts on the closing down of Hammersmith Palais, plus reviews of Clash tribute albums, Planet of Friends antifascist cd, The Night Watchman, punk/related zines, and various Myspace ska/punk/hardcore bands,  plus coverage of Julian Temple's film The Future is unwritten.

I'm also still trying to put together a themed issue based around thoughts on and critism of Chris Salewicz' biopic Redemption Song and related issues i.e exploring Joe's relationships with journalists, claimed struggle with depression & alcohol - interviews not mentioned in the book contradicting the suggestions that he was in denial.
+ various things that have been written suggesting Joe was a fake/it was all an act - explorings issues of hope, dispair, honesty, and redemption, and authenticity/sincerity in creativity & rock n' roll.
and  I'm also thinking of doing an issue based arround 'reasons to love/hate Billy Bragg.
Anything connected to these topics is very welcome.

I'm also looking for  anything about Joe, The Clash, related bands (either via connections, influance or just sharing a similar outlook), punk, left wing politics, anti -racism, anti-fascism (Nazi punks fuck off), DIY culture, zines and similar topics. All contributers whose work is used will get a free copy of the finished issue.

I have some copies of issue one left - if you want one just ask, would like to get feedback.

it's stupid o clock in the morning

I'm still awake and I don't care - been working on things for for the zine, looking at r.e.a.p.e.a.t's site, getting ideas, working on the cover - any month now I should actualy finish it.

managed to find some submissions I'd thought I'd lost hiding in the depths of my harddrive - a great piece on The Clash's first (I think) concert in Toronto.

R.e.a.p.e.a.t has a very interesting interview with Pennnie Smith in it's archive - she's still got it
great oppinions on how she doesn't want to be bracketed, *that* photo, romantics etc.

This is a great song -
CAPITAL CITY - Let's Throw Our Love Away

good old fasioned warm hearted rock n roll
hint of The Velvets, esp Sunday Morning only happy and upbeat, plus reminds me a bit of the Ramones Baby I love you & a bit of The View same jeans in the woa wu wa woa moment.

I'm grinning & singing along even though I've never heard it before
R.E.A.P.E.A.T has great taste

now on it's forth play in a row.

Hopelessly Romantic: Joe Strummer/The Clash zine Issue 2 & 3 needing submissions

(x posted to myspace and livejournal)

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Issue 2 is going to be a themed issue, mostly a mix of quotes (from people like Johnny Green), photos and my thoughts - inspired/responding to pieces by Pat Gilbert (The Man Who Wasn't There, July issue of Mojo), and Chris Salewicz (The Word's preview of his book, & pieces in The Independent re Strummer's 80s struggle with depression & alcohol) + various things that have been written suggesting Joe was a fake/it was all an act - explorings issues of hope, dispair, honesty, and redemption, whether Lost in the Supermarket was partly auto-biographical and authenticity/sincerity in creativity & rock n' roll.

looking for artwork (any type), & people's memories of concerts or meetings and opinions.

Issue three is going to be general mix of news & thoughts on Joe/Clash related events like Julian Temple's film, the Redemption Song book, Babyshambles covering Janie Jones, Tymon Dogg, The Hours etc.
so anything related to these topics or Joe/Clash in general will be great.

All submissions used will get a free copy

- hopelesslyromanticzine@gmail.com

Contents include: (I'll right a better description later - I promise)

news and thoughts on Julian Temple's planned documentary, Boris Johnson - Strummer fan!,
a rant about Mick Jone's (aledged) coke use & involvement in the Pete & Kate Moss video.
Open letters to Pete Doherty and Joe (written for Glastonbury tribute)+ my thoughts on the Strummer news tribute/condolences pages and Let's Rock Again & Joe's autographs.

Also a classic interview with Joe from Kigsize magazine circa 2001 where he's talking about The Clash, gobbing, rap ("the Clash were rapping in 1981"), drugs, his worst job, working with Courtney Love on Straight to Hell, and marathon running.
A review of the cd Police State - A Tribute to the Clash, which includes Gene October, Roger Askew on the Sid and Nancy soundtrack, reviews of Albion & Down in Albion by Babyshambles (nicked from Teletext)and song lyrics from Atilla The Stockbroker.
